Skerpikjøt!! oh yeah..

so here it goes… I don´t think there´s an English written blog about Skerpikjøt anywhere.. my germs!

Skerpikjøt is what you hold in your dirty hands whence the rear legs of a sheep have been cut of and skinned and then hanged to dry for a couple of months… it is fabulous! hehe..

I am from the terrific year of 1984.. 25 winters and going strong.. and I have eaten this meat regularly since.. I think I was about 8-9 the first time I tried it.. but I was probably younger.. it´s just that I cannot remember myself chewing on that blissed meat before a friends birthday in the early nineties.. but today.. oooh.. I cut me 2 slices of a leg that was half rotten, half raw.. it was still juicy:) I did it because I got impatient… this particular leg was a rather big one.. so it takes longer time to dry:P anyways! I cut the slices into pieces and cut myself to slices of dark bread.. put some well churned butter on the bread slices… I took the pieced bits of skerpikjøt and placed them carefully on the bread slices.. both of them.. I was breathing heavily at this point, knowing what was about to happen in my mouth! I tortured my self a bit more by pouring cold 3.0% fat milk into a tall cold glass to enjoy after the meat feast..

my mouth was severely watered up and at this point I started breathing through my mouth. I truly was enthrilled! I took the first bite.. the meat piece on the first bite was from the outer regions on the leg.. it was just the way it was supposed to be… it wouldn´t have hurt if it was a bit drier.. but still fab.. and the same with the second and third bite… but the fourth! Jesus, Maria and Jo-Jo! it was a piece I had cut very close to the bone itself, so it would be the juiciest, and I intended it to be the last piece to join the ongoing party in my mouth! oh dearest creator.. be it my parents or the one and supposedly only god.. it was…beautiful! I smiled.. as I chewed.. it was VERY chewy… the taste… was… still is.. undescribable! I was..happy:) I chewed and my nose went into memarobilia.. it smelled the fresh cut grass fields I used to play on when I was but a mere toddler.. and I could vividly imagine my past grandparents flirtingly laugh in the kitchen while I was playing in their cosy livingroom.. they were eating skerpikjøt.. I snapped back to reality! it was time to swallow the oral festivities.. I poured some of the refreshing milk into my spent mouth.. I chuckled and a single tear ran down my right cheek.. I have tasted heaven…I am sure of it!

I hope that others will try what I have experienced today:) it truly was grand..

all the best.. Don Panda

Heini would probably agree with me that 1985 was even more terrific :) When it comes to the food itself – you know what I think of it ;)
